Measurement of low concentrations of albumin in urine (microalbuminuria) is important in diabetes, as early intervention can halt and even reverse the progression of nephropathy. According to international recommendations, diabetics should be monitored for incipient nephropathy by measurement of microalbuminuria a few times a year.

Hypertensive individuals also benefit from screening for microalbuminuria. Patients with both hypertension and microalbuminuria have a greater incidence of cardiovascular events and renal insufficiency than patients with normal urinary albumin excretion.

Orion Diagnostica’s QuikRead® U-ALB kit is intended for quantitative determination of albumin in urine (microalbuminuria), using QuikRead 101 Instrument. The kit is ready-to-use and contains everything needed for the assay. The separately available Urine Albumin Control is used for quality control of QuikRead U-ALB assay using QuikRead 101 Instrument.
