Faecal occult blood (FOB) is an early sign in many gastrointestinal disorders. Several studies have shown that the incidence of and mortality from colorectal cancer can be significantly reduced by a systematic screening programme using FOB testing or periodic/supplemental endoscopic examination of the large bowel. Patients positive for FOB should undergo additional diagnostic evaluation. Orion Diagnostica’s QuikRead® FOB is a qualitative test (cut-off test) for detection of FOB in human stool samples in cases of suspected bleeding from the lower gastrointestinal tract. The immunological test principle of QuikRead FOB eliminates the need for a special diet before sampling. This is in contrast to conventional chemical tests for FOB, in which some foods may cause false-positive results. QuikRead FOB consists of the small, portable QuikRead 101 Instrument and a QuikRead FOB kit. The kit is ready to use and contains everything needed for the assay. The result - positive or negative - is displayed on the QuikRead instrument. The QuikRead FOB / Hemolex Sampling Set provides a hygienic means of sampling at home, hygienic storage and transportation to the laboratory.
